There are many factors that are considered before a site is considered as successful, when the number of visitors only is not the only variable being prioritized. The layout of the website carries a lot of weight as well as the nature of the material posted. But before either of those can be examined, the site has to be accessed first. One question that arises at this point is how accessible is the site? How long does it take to load? This is important because a site that takes too long to load discourages visitors who come visiting, and this is detrimental to the amount of traffic generated at the end of the day. So how can a webmaster increase the speed of the website?

First this can be guaranteed by getting a good host. Behind every successful website is a very reliable host. The amount it takes for a site to load is dependent on the amount of bandwidth space available. A good host is one that offers it in abundance, as well as gives the opportunity for future growth. A good host ensures that no matter how many visitors you get, the loading time for your site will be standard. The task gets harder when your site offers large capacity downloads. But a good host should be able to handle the challenge, though an extra cost might be involved because of the amount of data transferred.

Second thing is to regulate the nature of content and multimedia files used on the site. Written articles do not have any direct influence on the amount of time it takes for a website to load, but images do. It is gravely important that the webmaster be mindful of the size of the images posted on the website. While a picture may aid in understanding the context of written material better, it should not be too large as to take many seconds to completely load. Impatience is one thing that web users are known for, so if a site takes more than fifteen seconds to load, the user naturally navigates away. While smaller image files may have lesser resolution detail, it’s easy to get a balance between image size and quality, without sacrificing both. Use of videos requires the use of flash, and this makes a website super slow, especially on a server that does not comprehensively offer support for it on the supported websites. Flash takes long to load, and when you couple that with a slow internet connection, it almost never loads. Even with good internet speeds, flash content loads painfully slowly, and this decreases the sites overall loading speeds. Its only encouraged where it is absolutely necessary.

A webmaster can increase the website speed by understanding the coding language better. By being an expert in CSS, HTML, Programming, there is a greater likelihood of coding the pages in such a way that their loading time is faster. These are only a few tips and tricks, and more are available if these alone don’t help improve the speed of the website.

A successful site is the pride of any webmaster.
