Writing with Search Engine Optimization

Many writers and webpage owners’ view search engine optimization as a means to attract readers and viewers to their sites. However, if it is not done correctly, it can lead to problems.

It is well known that people rarely venture past the first page or two of a search result. Effective use of search engine optimization can list your webpage in the first pages of a key term(s) search. There are sites that have great content and yet, do not attract the amount of desired views simply because there is no search engine optimization implemented in the writing. This is not to say that simply using search engine optimization will lead to more viewers.

Some “experts” claim that search engine optimization is pointless because traffic occurs randomly. That is true if you have unique material that is easily accessible. For a vast majority, that is not the case.

This article will address how to use search engine optimization and the elements that should be implemented for maximum exposure.

Although search engine optimization is beneficial, its correct application depends on much more than the repetition of key word(s). It requires in-depth knowledge of the topic to be addressed, time spent researching words frequently associated with the topic, and the development of an entertaining and appealing write-up.

Search engine optimization begins at the title, which must include the desired key word(s) while drawing the attention of potential readers. The tags and subsequent description should concise and contain the search engine optimization keyword(s). The keyword(s) should be researched to ensure that they are actually used frequently. It would be pointless using search engine optimization to rank at the top of a search page if your keyword(s) are rarely used on search engines.

Search engine optimization goes beyond ranking. It involves the presentation of the content in the Meta description, which should be less than 165 words and contain the desired keyword(s) to allow possible readers ascertain that your content is relevant to them.
The actual content or write-up should be updated on a regular basis to ensure that it up-to-date- and relevant. For maximum benefits from search engine optimization, the content should not deviate from the subject alluded to by the topic and keyword(s).
Keep in mind that content that is too short or is not adequately in-depth will not benefit from search engine optimization. To counter this dilemma, it is best to aim for at least 350 words.

It is also recommendable to highlight, bold or capitalize the first occurrence of the keyword or phrase in a paragraph to draw attention to it.

A good rule to keep in mind when using search engine optimization is the 30 percent rule. The keyword(s) should make up about 30% of the entire article. Anything more and you risk having an article that is treated as spam by search engines. Use less than 30% and your article may not enjoy the benefits of search engine optimization.

While search engine optimization may require time to execute, it can be very rewarding if done well and in conjunction with the other pieces of advice.
